Alan Long, CPA,CA
A seasoned accounting professional with over 25 years of experience in both corporate practice and private enterprise. Alan graduated from Acadia University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and obtained his CA designation during his tenure at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (Toronto & Montreal) where he was a senior manager in the restructuring and M&A groups.
As an entrepreneur, Alan was part of the founding group of two private companies, the most recent being Digital Cement, a media/marketing venture. Alan acted in an operational capacity as COO / CFO, and was instrumental in growing the company from 4 to 150 employees, when it was acquired by Pitney Bowes.
As part of his Guarden Capital activities Alan currently sits on several boards and acts in a financial director role of Re Power Barbados and Velocity Trade International.
Richard Rohde, CPA,CA
Richard (Rick) Rohde was a tax partner in the Toronto office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP from 1988 to 2013. Rick has been extensively involved with energy related Canadian tax assignments, including acquisitions and corporate mergers for both Canadian and foreign investors. Rick has been involved in Canadian tax issues since 1977.
Rick has been involved in several significant energy related assignments carried out for clients which include hydro-electric facilities, wind power projects, biomass and solar energy. The assignments include tax-effective structuring arrangements including those which are advantageous in attracting capital and strategic investors, as well as, structuring appropriate investment vehicles, financing and related planning.
Rick has written articles for the Canadian Tax Foundation, International Fiscal Association and CA Magazine and other publications. He was the Canadian Tax Reporter at the 1996 Geneva Congress for the International Fiscal Association and a speaker at the 1996 joint meeting of Canadian and U.S. branches of the International Fiscal Association. Rick has been involved as a tutor for CICA advanced tax course on Corporate Reorganizations and is a former lecturer at York University (1986-1991). Rick has been a member of the CICA Tax Courses Committee from 1989 to 2001.
Andrew Talbot, ACA(UK)
Andrew Talbot is currently CFO for Tri-D Technologies, a developer of CAD software. Prior to Tri-D, Andrew was CFO for SiliconSystems, a company based in Southern California engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of solid-state drives. Andrew was part of the management group that grew the company from zero to $million in sales and to 100 employees prior to the company's sale to Western Digital in 2009
Previously, Andrew was a co-founder and CFO of Human Electric Ltd an internet company based in the UK, served as Vice President and General Manager for SimpleTech Europe and Canada and was a senior manager for PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Toronto in the insolvency and corporate finance departments.
Andrew graduated with a BSc in Computerized Accounting from University of East Anglia, UK and became a Chartered Accountant in the UK with Deloitte Haskins + Sells.
